Kathmandu: Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has emphasized the necessity of developing a collective review mechanism for the implementation of civil codes. Speaking at an event organized to mark Civil Code Day, he said that meaningful reforms can only be achieved through discussions involving the legislature, executive, and judiciary together.

Periodic Review Based on Seven Years of Experience

Recalling that Supreme Court judges led the task force during the drafting of the codes, Raut highlighted their high qualitative standards. However, he underlined the need for periodic reviews based on practical experiences accumulated over the past seven years. He noted that the judiciary evaluates the implementation aspect of the codes during its annual performance review.

Report Submitted to Government for Reforms

The Chief Justice revealed that a report has been submitted to the government, detailing challenges faced by judicial bodies and recommending contemporary reforms. He said the Civil Code was drafted in line with judicial interpretations and Supreme Court guidance to meet social needs.

Rule of Law Requires Cooperation Across State Organs

Raut stressed that ensuring the practical implementation of the rule of law is the responsibility of all state organs. He called for support and cooperation from all concerned bodies to successfully implement the judiciary’s strategic plan.
